A capsule endoscopy from the comfort of your own home

Bowel Clinic is a service provided by 1 Clinical, direct to patients.

A quick and easy full bowel health check

Are you worried about what’s happening inside your gut? With our capsule endoscopy, we use the latest technology to detect bowel cancer and other digestive system conditions.

This advanced procedure provides state-of-the-art imagery of both the small and large bowels, delivering high-resolution images that allow doctors to see the finest details. This results in a very high diagnostic yield and superior detection rates. Best of all, you can undergo this entire process in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

How it works

The process

The capsule transmits thousands of images from your small and large bowel to a recording device you wear on your belt, all from the comfort and privacy of your own home. It passes through your system painlessly and is flushed away about eight hours later.

We then upload the data from the recorder, and one of our UK doctors assesses the images, providing you with a written report and diagnosis. We’ll advise you on the next medical steps, whether it’s a referral or other resources like dietary recommendations. You’ll have your questions answered and receive full support with the results.

Common questions

Quick answers

Capsule endoscopy is a simple way to check your bowel. You swallow a tiny camera that takes pictures as it travels through your body. It’s used to detect the presence of tumours, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis and other bowel diseases. It’s painless, doesn’t use radiation, and you can do it at home. A doctor will review the pictures and discuss the results with you. It’s a great way to find problems early, but it might not be right for everyone.

Capsule endoscopy is a painless procedure with no needles or sedation. You simply swallow the capsule and get on with your day.

People who can benefit from this advanced analysis of the small and large bowel include those who:

  • Had previous complications or bad experiences with colonoscopy
  • Need health screening
  • Have unexplained bleeding
  • Require surveillance of certain bowel diseases, such as polyps.
